According to the label, 5 Island Rum is a Sophiscated blend of Barrel-Aged rums Pot stilled Jamaican and light Trinidadian Amber rums from Guyana and Barbados Enhanced and inspired by the journeys and discoveries of Joseph Banks, a gentleman explorer, botanist and explorer. According to the neck band this is a dry Flavorful rum.

The first aroma when I open the bottle is reminiscent of the tropical florals, gardenia and citrus blossom, found in young Jamaican pot still rum, with hints of light alcohol as I inhale deeper into my glass. The initial taste confirms the presence of heavy Jamaican rum, but this quickly yields to a viscous body that lacks the hot spice typically found in young pot still rums. The finish comes on fairly quickly with soursop and ripe orange flavors on the tongue and a dry smoky feel in the back of the throat.

Blended in Holland to be mixed in cocktails, Banks Rum is a blend of several rum styles though dominated by the fuller flavor of the first rum listed on the label. Though blended from barrel aged rums there is no age statement and I'm told that this rum is carbon-filtered for clarity before it is bottled.
